Mr. Matthew Raines has been teaching since 1999 with private and public education experiences including Theatre, General Music, Choir, and Band. He recently completed his Master's in Music Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University May 2020, prior to attending SOSU, he completed his undergraduate studies at the College of Biblical Studies, Houston, Texas in 2004, in Administration with a minor in Biblical studies. Prior to CBS Houston, he studied at Hardin-Simmons University under the direction of Don Hanna from 1994-1998. While at Hardin-Simmons University, he was also a member of the “World Famous” Cowboy Band as well as the Concert Band. His private lesson teachers in college were Lawson Hager, Hardin-Simmons University, and Mark Barton, University of Houston. Prior to college, he attended Texas City High School and was under the direction of Tom SoRelle and Randy Luster, 1990-1994. He began playing tuba in 1988, piano and singing (tenor) since 1981, as well as bass guitar.
Presently, he is a member of TMAA, TMEA, TBA, NaME, BAGMA, and a Rotarian. He has 5 children (Gavin, Bryce, Kegan, Kyris, and Abigail). Mr. Raines enjoys fishing and spending time with his kids.

Max Phillips will be spending his 3rd year as Assistant Band Director for the Santa Fe High School “Pride of the Tribe” band. He attended Texas Tech in the Fall of 2015, where he began his life as a music educator. He graduated in the Spring of 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Texas Tech Horn Studio studying under Professor Christopher Smith. He has performed for various wind ensembles and orchestras at Texas Tech during the school years, and spent his summers marching in drum and bugle corps. Mr. Phillips marched with the Sacramento Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps in 2015, the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps in 2016 and 2017, and aged out with The Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps in 2018. Before graduating Texas Tech, Mr. Phillips spent 4 years as a marching band instructor for the Plainview High School “PowerHouse of the Plains” marching band in Plainview, Texas. He also spent time on the brass staff with the Guardians Drum and Bugle corps in the Summer of 2019. Mr. Phillips chose to become a music educator because he had fantastic experiences while in band throughout his time in high school, college, and drum corps. He will continue to provide those same amazing experiences for our students in the Santa Fe High School “Pride of the Tribe” band.

Daniel Pendergrass started teaching in Santa Fe in 2016 and has enjoyed helping his students achieve success through fun and memorable musical experiences. Mr. Pendergrass graduated from the University of Houston in 2003 followed by 3 years in Palestine ISD and 10 years in Deer Park ISD before his start in Santa Fe. Janet Henderson was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and attended the High School for the
Performing and Visual Arts. After high school, she graduated from the University of Texas with a degree
in Music Education. She has been a band director/music lesson teacher in Galena Park ISD, Clear Creek
ISD, and LaPorte ISD.

with her kids, sports, and making scrapbooks.
She has also worked in Santa Fe ISD for the last 4 years as a private music lesson teacher. She really
enjoys the culture in the district. She is excited to meet and teach some fine young musicians!.

Mr. Blaine Sholmire is entering his first year as the percussion tech for the Santa Fe High School "Pride of the Tribe" band. He is a double major, studying music therapy and general music at Sam Houston State University. Mr. Sholmire is a well rounded musician that excels in percussion, guitar, and piano. He was the lead guitarist for the Sam Houston State Jazz band as well as drum captain for the Texas City High School band. Blaine also played guitar for the Texas City High School Mariachi band and Texas City High School Jazz band. He was a three year member of the Texas City High School Indoor Percussion team. Blaine graduated from the College of the Mainland with his Associate degree and from Texas City High School both in 2019. Mr. Sholmire will graduate from Sam Houston State University in May of 2023 and is looking forward to being a part of this growing program.
